Just for fun
At the age of 15, just for fun, Audrey started competing. She eventually made the Quebec development Slopestyle/Big Air team, two years later, she was competing on the national level. After the start of a successful career on the Junior and Senior World Cup circuit, at the youth Olympic Games, at the US Open and other national competitions, the athlete had to make a hard decision: put a term to her Freestyle career for health reasons. The numerous injuries and the consequences of a concussion at the 2016 training camp put an end to Audrey’s dream to compete in the 2018 Olympics.
Audrey still felt a strong passion for snowboarding, so she turned to another discipline: Snowboard Cross. Her goal: make the National Team. One year after her career change, she was back on the Canadian development team and won the titles of Canadian and North-American champion.
What’s in store for 2019-2020
The biggest challenge Audrey will have to face in 2019-2020 is her return on the World Cup circuit. Oberson is proud to be helping her achieve her goals for the season, which is to make the top 15 on the World Cup to be able to make the Canadian A team. All this, says Audrey, “while having fun and enjoying the sport”. With her favorite gear – her Oberson boot bag and a Patagonia fleece – and when she has the time, she loves to shred the slopes at Le Massif de Charlevoix and Whistler/Blackcomb.
One of her tips for the season: “make sure you have your board waxed and sharpened before you hit the slopes and make sure you keep it well tuned all season long.”
The Oberson family wishes her great success for the 2019-2020 season!
