La Muerte by Simple Malt Microbrewery, is a 7.5% coffee imperial stout aged in rye, bourbon and brandy barrels

Bière Simple Malt après-ski

The sun slowly sets and gives way to the early winter evening. You’re left with red cheeks, a tired body and that awesome feeling you have after a satisfying day on the mountain. It’s après-ski hour my dear friends! Is there nothing more wonderful than hearing the “pshttt” sound of a fresh beer at the end of great day of skiing? In my opinion, nothing tops that! Trade your ski or snowboard boots for your Thermoballs and have a seat in your favorite chair.

Our featured beer this week is a very interesting collaboration from Simple Malt. To celebrate the 6th anniversary of Espace Houblon boutiques, the microbrewery from St-Eustache created La Muerte. This imperial stout aged in rye, bourbon and brandy barrels is brewed with more than 140 pounds of La Muerte coffee from Newland coffee roasters.

At first glance, its dark brown colour unveils an evanescent foam which leaves a fine lace on the glass. The aromas of this heady craft beer consist of the finest alcohol, cocoa and subtle coffee notes. In the mouth, the delicate bubbles give way to a syrupy background. The rye, bourbon and brandy barrel aging is very present and the soothing warmth is overwhelming. Well balanced, the final note lingers leaving you with one wish: have another sip and enjoy the après-ski!

A special thanks to the experts at Espace Houblon boutiques for this delicious suggestion!
