Salomon 2022: QST Freeride Skis

Salomon is always looking to innovate. This season, the QST line is still on top with two new models. If you don’t already know this Freeski, here are the QST skis’ three key features.

1. The QST’s Ancestors: Rocker II Skis

Do you know the Salomon Rocker II alpine skis? These experimental skis completely redefined what would become Salomon. This model was amazing in powder but lacked performance on groomed and hard-packed surfaces.

Since the needs of skiers have evolved in the past ten years, Salomon needed to develop new models. Once upon a time, skiers defined themselves according to a particular style, like freeride or freestyle. Today, ski enthusiasts need versatile equipment, less specific to one style, and therefore, they need a ski that can do it all.

That’s why Salomon kept the best features of the Rocker II to create versatile skis that offer the perfect balance between playfulness and performance. From this evolution was born the QST ski.

2. Construction and Technology

The idea behind the design of the Salomon QST freeride line is that you can have just one ski that allows you to explore the mountain on or off-piste. The QST construction is designed to make the skis easy to maneuver and stable in all conditions.

The first feature that sets it apart is the Cork Damplifier that absorbs vibrations for an ultra-smooth glide thanks to the cork inserts in the tip and tail. In addition, the C/FX carbon lamination optimizes the ski's responsiveness and power without adding weight. Exceptional cushioning in a powerful ski for amazing runs.

The All-Terrain Rocker profile gives it this great versatility that guarantees fun in the powder and on the slopes. The rocker at each end ensures playfulness and makes it easy to maneuver in powder, and the camber under the bindings provides the grip needed to attack groomers and hard packed surfaces.

3. Boots, Bindings and Skis

This season, two new models are added to the collection: the QST 98 and the QST Blank. The QST 98 is ideal for Quebec conditions: 98 mm under the binding provides precision in the turns, agility, and playfulness with maximum rebound for this type of profile. The perfect weapon for all-around fun.

If you want to use your skis for both resort and touring, combine them with a Salomon S/LAB Shift binding and a Shift Pro boot. This combination allows you to make the most of everything skiing has to offer on the mountain, from powder to groomers.
