It is important to properly care for your technical clothing to ensure maximum performance as long as possible. For ski jackets, pants or base layers, these washing instructions apply to most fabrics and materials. However, it is still better to follow the instructions on the care label inside the garment.

  • When washing winter garments, it is very important to fasten all velcros and zippers. Empty all pockets as well.
  • Most winter garments can be machine-washed. Front-loaders provide the best results.
  • It is very important to always wash winter garments in cold water and to use the most delicate cycle. DO NOT DRY CLEAN.
  • To clean soiled areas (e.g.: collar and wrists), it is recommended that you use a stain remover to pre-treat the area before putting the garment in the washer. If using the Grangers stain remover sold at Oberson, spray the stains by gently rubbing it in.
  • Using detergent specifically designed for technical garments is highly recommended. However, gentle liquid detergent can also be used. Granular detergents are not recommended, because they leave a residue that clogs the fabric's pores and prevent moisture from wicking.
  • Fabric softener should never be used because it will block the fabric’s pores and reduce the efficiency of the breathable waterproof membrane.
  • Rinse properly! Soap residues can alter the efficiency of the fabric's properties.
  • Once the rinse cycle has ended, remove the garments QUICKLY and hang in a dry area. Example: The goal is to avoid colour migration if the garment stays in the washer.
  • We do not recommend wringing or twisting the garments.

Drying Instructions

  • Garments must be hung in a dry and dark area.
  • Once dry, you can put the garment in the dryer for 5 minutes on the lowest heat setting. This is to remove wrinkles and enhance the efficiency of the water repellent treatment.
  • After many washings, the original water repellent treatment should be renewed with a spray product or a product that can be added to the detergent.
  • Do not expose the garment to a direct heat source.

Washing Down-Filling

  • The washing procedure is the same as for regular garments.
  • To restore the soft look of down-filled garments, it is important to tumble dry on the coldest setting. We recommend the use of dryer balls so that the down-filling will return to its original shape. The garment must be fully dried, or mold will grow and emit a foul smell.

In the hopes that this information will prove to be useful in maintaining the performance of your technical clothing, once again, it is important to read the information on the care labels because every company may have information that is specific to each garment. It is important to follow the instructions or the garment may no longer be under guarantee in the event of a major problem.
