Quebec and its various regions abound in mountain bike trails to explore. Whether you're an expert or a beginner, you'll find a trail to ride. Here are our top picks for mountain biking this summer.

Mountain Biking in the Laurentians

Chantecler — Sainte-Adèle

If you’re a cross-country enthusiast, the Chanteclerc network is in your wheelhouse. With many kilometres of trails for all levels, Chanteclerc is well known for technical riding with a mishmash of rocks and roots. It’s the perfect place if you want to get out and pedal for a long time and explore. It also has some beautiful viewpoints to stop for a snack.

Maintained by Plein Air Sainte-Adèle, the Chanteclerc mountain bike trail network is located on one of the former slopes of the ski resort bearing the same name. It’s also a few pedal strokes from the Parc Pentes 40/80, a perfect spot for riders who are into jumps. You can also link up with the Mont Loup Garou network (another must-visit!) via Fat Garou, which will be open this weekend.

Forêt Héritage — Sainte-Anne-des-Lacs

A fun network in Sainte-Anne-des-Lacs, Forêt Héritage has 23 trails, mainly at the intermediate to expert levels. This mountain biking area will appeal to anyone who loves cross-country trails with roots and rock gardens.

The trails wind through a lush forest. In recent years, the Flamingo was created to offer a faster-rolling path with jumps and drops. Riders especially love connecting Carbone with Résine for a superbly flowy itinerary with some technical challenges.

Vélo Mont-Tremblant — Mont-Tremblant

Both beginners and seasoned riders will have fun here! The Mont-Tremblant mountain bike trail network has nearly 50 kilometres of trails for all tastes and levels. For enduro enthusiasts, the Deer Mountain sector is a must. It features a relatively easy climb and downhills that will appeal to riders who love jumps and drops, as well as those who prefer technical trails. Vélo Mont-Tremblant is also a great place to ride as a family.

Mountain Biking in the Eastern Townships

The Networks of the Parc des Sommets Bromont — Bromont

Cross-country and enduro enthusiasts will be well served here. The Parc des Sommets de Bromont’s trail network has 105 km of trails divided into five interconnected sectors. Maintained by a team of enthusiasts, the high-quality trails present various challenges: bridges, rock slabs, jumps, drops, but also easier trails to get started mountain biking. The Mount Oak area is an ideal place to get the hang of the sport or ride with your kids.

The trail network runs through a verdant forest that sometimes opens up to splendid viewpoints where you can linger for a well-deserved break. To guide cyclists riding the network for the first time, the Parc des Sommets has various suggested routes based on skill level.

Plus, the charming village of Bromont will welcome you with its friendly cafés, bars, restaurants and the legendary Canaël bakery. Put this place on your summer getaway list if you haven’t done so already.

Mont Sutton — Sutton

Mont Sutton’s trails open this Saturday, May 18! Although the chairlift will only begin operating on June 22, almost the entire network is ready for riding.

The network has 45 kilometres of cross-country and enduro trails for all levels. For the start of the season, the expert Kouiki trail has been completely redesigned. If you want to spend the weekend right beside the trails, the Huttopia campground and lodging is just a few metres from the Mont Sutton parking lot. Check the trail conditions when planning your first visit.

Mountain Biking in Mauricie

Mont SM — Mauricie

A true mountain biking gem in Mauricie, Mont SM offers 20 kilometres of enduro trails accessible for all rider levels. The main climb leads to the top in less than 20 minutes without too many technical challenges. The downhills? So, so much fun! They feature slabs, jumps, technical sections and well-built, well-maintained flow trails.

A few new trails have been unveiled over the past two years, including a top-to-bottom jump line called the Sauterie, the ROC and BOL trails, as well as connectors that allow you to explore the mountain without having to return to the main chalet. The Camping du Parc, located a few pedal strokes from Mont SM, is a perfect place to spend the weekend.

Empire 47 — Lac Delage

A little mountain bike paradise! Empire 47’s network is mainly made up of blue trails with occasional challenges and the legendary black ones, such as the Valkyrie, Nosferatu or Pad Religion. This vast mountain bike network also has a learning area and green trails that will appeal to families and cyclists who are new to the sport.

Many riders particularly enjoy Belzébrute, a 2.2 km blue trail with spicy expert sections that you can ride or bypass. It’s perfect for honing your skills and taking on a few small challenges!

Sentiers du Moulin — Lac Beauport

The Sentiers du Moulin network is a must-visit in Quebec! The terrain, impeccably maintained by LB-Cycle, has more than 60 kilometres of trails divided into two sectors: SDM and Maelström. In the Maelström area, you’ll find the legendary Slab City downhill, as well as several other expert trails, such as Wolverine. It also features magnificent views and the famous bridges built into the mountainside. As for the SDM sector, you’ll find the classic Super G, as well as several other more accessible trail options, including some blue and green ones.

Equipment rental is available on-site, and the Buvette du Moulin’s lovely terrace is always ready to host your post-ride get-together. The Maelström chalets can be rented for a memorable bike-in bike-out experience. If you haven’t been there already, you really need to check this place out!

Mountain Biking in the Outaouais

Montebello Vélo — Montebello 

With a legendary network that hosted the Canadian Mountain Bike Championships in 1988, the charming village of Montebello has rekindled its passion for the sport that burned more than thirty years ago. Thanks to mountain bike enthusiasts, some trails have been brought back to life to preserve loops with an old school feel alongside newly created modern riding areas.

In total, they’ve developed 25 kilometres of trails for all levels, including six kilometres added in 2023, with new downhills and climbs. The enchanting site immerses you in a forest of century-old pines with views of the Ottawa River along the way. Cross-country enthusiasts will enjoy Auf Spring, while fans of flow trails will prefer Mastodonte. Montebello Vélo also features a few more expert trail options with tough technical challenges. The climbs are quite manageable, which allows you to really appreciate each descent.

The reception and rental service are located at the Fairmont Château Montebello—a majestic log cabin-style building—which can also be your home for the weekend. It’s a must-ride!
