Peak Performance: Style, Function, and Freedom from the Mountains of Sweden

Born in the ski town of Åre, Sweden, Peak Performance uses the surrounding mountains as proving grounds for high-performance apparel built to perform in the harshest conditions. Each piece reflects a Scandinavian commitment to precision, durability, and clean design. At Oberson, our selection includes ski outerwear, mountain bike clothing, base layers, mid layers, casual apparel, and accessories.

History

Peak Performance was founded in 1986 in Åre, a town nestled in the Scandinavian Mountains near Sweden’s western border. At the time, ski apparel was dominated by garish colours and loud designs, but a group of dedicated skiers wanted something different. They set out to create technical outerwear that could handle challenging mountain weather while reflecting a clean, modern aesthetic rooted in Scandinavian design. What began as a local project quickly gained momentum. Today, Peak Performance is a global leader in high-performance outerwear and active lifestyle clothing.

Freeride Spirit

Guided by the motto “bringing the freeride spirit to the world,” Peak Performance designs high-end apparel for those who move with purpose, find fresh lines, and seek their own paths in the mountains and beyond. That freeride mindset—defined by freedom, flow, and the energy of untamed places—shapes everything from their streamlined silhouettes to their choice of technical materials. With clean lines, refined palettes, and ergonomic fits, Peak Performance combines a minimalist Nordic aesthetic with the functionality needed to explore without limits.

Sustainability and Responsibility

Peak Performance doesn’t just design for performance—it designs for the future. Guided by a long-term environmental strategy and a deep respect for the natural world, the brand is rethinking every step of the product lifecycle, from sourcing to packaging to what happens when a garment’s life ends.

The goal? Fewer products made, and more products loved longer. Peak Performance focuses on timeless design, durable construction, and care education to keep garments in use for as long as possible. Programs such as WearAgains encourage resale and reuse, while initiatives such as downcycling workshops and leftover-fabric collections reflect a clear move toward circularity.

The brand has eliminated nearly all PFAS from its supply chain, banned fur and leather, and increased the use of recycled and certified materials across key product lines, such as the Frost jacket. It’s also committed to full supply chain transparency by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050 backed by measurable, science-based targets.
