What is an Everesting Challenge?
Originating in Australia, Everesting is a cycling challenge with a simple concept: ascend an out-and-back climb until you rack up 8,848 metres of elevation gain—as much as the altitude of Everest’s summit. Simple? Yes. Tough? You bet!
Usually, this challenge is completed solo. However, for some events, such as the Oberson Everesting, teams can accumulate the metres to make it more accessible and inclusive.
Here’s a fun fact: the challenge was inspired by George Mallory—the eponymous British mountaineer’s grandson—who cycled Mount Donna Buang eight times in 1994 to train for his ascent of Everest.
Climbing Everest ... for Frédérique
At Oberson, we’ve always believed that our commitment to making a difference goes far beyond sport. We’re a team, a family, a community. And sometimes, life reminds us how precious those bonds are.
When our little Frédérique was diagnosed with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a respiratory disorder as rare as it is complex, our world was turned upside down. Her strength, her laughter, and all the tremendous courage in her fragile little body have inspired us in a way that no climb ever could. Frédérique, our radiant ambassador, inspires us to push our limits and turn our passion into action. She’s why we created the Oberson Everesting Challenge.
A cause That's Close to Our Hearts
For us, it’s essential to be involved in our community through concrete actions and partnerships The Montreal Children’s Hospital is home to the first and only primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) clinic in Quebec. It’s much more than a medical facility. It’s a place of hope—where Frédérique receives care and where children can breathe easier and be kids again.
We want to support research so that every diagnosis leads to solutions, treatments, and hope. And as the hospital’s slogan says, “We prefer our kids to be spirited, even a little bratty—anything but sick.”
A Community That Moves Forward Together
Our project belongs to everyone who believes children deserve a life that’s simple and carefree. Through sport, we want to build bridges, take meaningful action, and let Frédérique—and so many other children—know they’re not alone. Together, we’ll climb much more than just a mountain.
How to Take Part in the Oberson Everesting?
There are two ways to contribute to our Everesting goal. The first is to make an online donation in the amount of your choice. Our goal, apart from summiting Everest? To raise $40,000 for the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
The second is to buy our Everesting Challenge jersey, which is for sale on our website. All proceeds will go to the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Where will Oberson’s Everesting challenge take place?
The climbs to our Everest summit will begin on Sunday, August 24, on Camillien-Houde Way in Montreal. The event will take place between 7:00 a.m. and noon and will allow many cyclists to complete one or more climbs during this island classic.
How will the funds raised be used?
Funds raised through the Everesting challenge will be used for research at the Montreal Children’s Hospital’s primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) and cystic fibrosis clinic.
Making a difference in the community is in our DNA. Although children make up 25 percent of the population, only 10 percent of research is devoted to them. Every donation goes a long way, attracting an additional seven to ten dollars in public funding to help families whose last hope lies in research.
Come cheer on our cyclists on August 24! Then stick around for attendance prizes, coffee, and pizza starting at 1:00 p.m. so you can grab a bite for a good cause.
