History

Oakley was founded in 1975 by Californian Jim Jannard, who named the company after his English Setter. In the brand’s earliest days, Jannard made motocross grips in his garage. His goal was to give athletes an edge with a more ergonomic product.

That solutions-oriented, edge-seeking spirit quickly led to innovations in eyewear, beginning with the O Frame motocross goggles in 1980 and the Eyeshade cycling sunglasses in 1984. By the mid-1980s, Oakley had become a go-to brand for elite athletes and action sports communities. From the iconic Frogskins to cutting-edge Prizm™ lens technology, Oakley has consistently combined science, bold design, and athlete insight to push the boundaries of sport. Over the years, Oakley has become an active lifestyle brand with a broad range of products. Prizm™ Lens Technology
