2. Dreamy

Just a few pedal strokes from the Lachine Canal, this third-wave café is a must-visit. Roasted on site, their delicious coffee can be enjoyed with a pastry or scone. Their flagship product? Biscuits, served with cream and jam. It’s the perfect combo for an energy boost before you hit the road again.

Since the owners make their roasting facilities available to other microroasters on the island of Montreal, you can get bags of coffee for your next cups of homemade joe. It’s definitely worth checking out.

3. Café Lili & Oli

Owned by two brothers, Patrick and Daniel Hébert, Café Lili & Oli is a quiet hangout with a laid-back atmosphere—and of course, great coffee! This family project was born in 2005 on Notre-Dame Street West. Since then, they’ve opened a second venue on Wellington Street in Verdun.

They serve pastries, sandwiches and salads in a friendly ambiance. As for coffee, the two brothers now roast their beans at Canal Café to make the official grind of Lili & Oli. You can also stock up and brew some in your coffee machine. It’s truly a spot to unwind and feel at home.

Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Thursdays and Fridays, they stay open until 7:00 p.m.

For a pre-ride energy boost or a pit stop, September Surf will be your new haven to recharge.

5. Mollo Café & Gelato/Mollo Boulangerie & Lab

The perfect afternoon stop? One of Mollo’s two locations! Go to the bakery to treat yourself to a scrumptious sandwich and get some pastries for the next morning. Then visit the café for a homemade vegan gelato or sorbet. Now that’s a real treat, especially after racking up a few kilometres of cycling.

What makes the two places stand out? The commitment to local ingredients and a respect for the environment. The coffee beans come from local roasters to ensure the traceability of every cup’s contents. As their team says, happiness lies in the simple things.

Open Monday to Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

6. Café Alphabet

It’s not just the coffee that’s delicious; this place is a real feast for the eyes! Tastefully decorated and furnished, Café Alphabet is a convivial spot to relax on a small terrace in the summer.

Two Montreal brothers of Greek origin run this Mile End coffee shop. Their goal was to create a project that would resonate with their cultural heritage. Mission accomplished! Having opened their Ambros roastery, they now offer their customers high-quality beverages. A few viennoiseries and pastries are available to accompany a delicious Freddo—a mixture of whipped iced espresso and cold foam.

Open Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

7. Clarke Café

Italy in the heart of Pointe-Saint-Charles—oh que sì! Clarke Café makes your mouth water with a selection of freshly made sandwiches and typical Italian pastries. With everything from sandwiches and porchetta to arancini and cannolis to top it all off, the café is a great place to stop for lunch. You can also savour a caffè e cornetto before heading to work! 9. Café Saint-Henri

Café Saint-Henri now has branches in several boroughs of the city—and even one in Quebec City!—and that’s what makes it a must-visit. You can always find a good cup of Saint-Henri coffee during a bike ride. Pastries and bags of coffee to-go are also on the menu at their various locations. We especially love the Jean-Talon Market branch, whose cozy atmosphere meshes with the market’s overall vibe.

10. Café Pista

Café Pista is, above all, the natural evolution of the world’s first human-powered bike coffee shop. Previously, Maxime pedalled to grind the coffee so they could serve the delightful hot beverage to customers.

Since 2016, the owners have come a long way: Café Pista now has three locations—each as charming as the next—to visit and enjoy one of their coffees. Pista painstakingly selects beans from partners with whom they’ve established long-lasting relationships. You can also order bags of coffee online if you didn’t have time to stop there on your ride.
