The BOA Fit System has been used in many types of sports gear, but rarely on a ski boot shell. The K2 BOA ski boot collection redefines comfort with a precise, even fit that adapts to many foot shapes.
The renowned manufacturer K2 had previously incorporated BOA technology in the liners of some ski boot models, which was already innovative. But the use of the BOA system for shell adjustment marks another step forward for K2 alpine ski equipment. This simple, precise, even fit system is available on Recon, Anthem and Mindbender ski boots.
The BOA Fit System
BOA is known for being easy to use. For alpine ski boots, the BOA fit system is located directly on the lower shell. This lets you adjust for foot width.
BOA works thanks to a system with dials and durable, rugged SS3 steel laces. To adjust the ski boot, press the dial to engage it and rotate clockwise to tighten and counterclockwise to loosen. To release the tension completely, simply pull up.
One of the major differences with a buckle closure system is the number of possible adjustment levels. Alpine ski boots with BOA have one hundred levels, while buckles offer forty. This feature allows microadjustments to fit various foot shapes.
The Design of K2 BOA Ski Boots
The design of the K2 BOA ski boot collection was updated to integrate the BOA system and generally optimized. The one-piece lower shell and BOA system make it easy to slip your foot in and naturally envelop it. In addition, the buckles on the upper shell have been revamped to be even more durable.
MultiFit™
Alpine ski boots are usually designed to offer different flex ratings and foot widths that range from 92 mm to 104 mm. Thanks to the BOA system, ski boots in this collection have only one width. The MultiFit™ technology fits foot widths between 97 mm and 104 mm. This technology makes the boot highly versatile and adaptable to different foot shapes.
BOA laces enhance comfort with a zigzag pattern that wraps the foot evenly. When the BOA system is engaged to close the ski boot, it evenly distributes pressure unlike buckles, which direct it onto the top of the foot, creating a downward pressure on the boot.
Honeycomb Boot Board
To trap warmth and improve comfort even more, boot boards with Honeycomb technology keep cold air outside your ski boots. In addition, the boot boards feature swappable shock absorbing inserts under the heel that change the boots’ dampening qualities. The grey insert is firmer, and the turquoise insert is designed with HarshMellow™ technology. The latter is softer to reduce chatter and absorb vibrations for smooth, enjoyable skiing.
New Shell Design
The lower shell’s new design reduces the ski boot’s volume by 13% when fully closed, which means that there’s less dead space between the foot and shell. For boots with buckles, the volume is reduced by 5% when the boot is closed. This superior volume reduction provides more performance and better power transfer.
