The Mountain’s Atmosphere
Surrounded by a magnificent forest typical of the region, Ski Montcalm offers its visitors a serene yet lively atmosphere. Owned by founder Tadek Barnowski’s children, the mountain is warm, welcoming, and family-friendly. The two owners John and Joanna aim to carry on the family tradition and always provide visiting skiers with the best experience.
A Family-Friendly Resort
The resort has everything families need to pass on and foster a passion for snow sports. To initiate your little ones, the mountain has a beginner’s area with two runs and two lifts, including a covered magic carpet and a kid-friendly chairlift. This makes for worry-free learning on safe, fun bunny slopes. Moreover, each of the four mountain areas has beginner trails. Your young snow sports enthusiasts will be able to develop their skills and gain confidence. And the mountain’s mascot Iggy the baby eagle might just encourage your youngsters on the bunny slope!
To lay the best possible foundations for children, the Ski Montcalm offers ski and snowboard lessons. The team of certified instructors is always delighted to teach kids the basics of snow sports.
Snow and Trail Quality
With its enticing offering of runs for all levels, the mountain has something for every type of skier. Its 29 trails are spread throughout four areas served by five lifts. In addition, Ski Montcalm offers freestyle enthusiasts three fun snow parks. They have features of various levels, allowing beginners to get started and the more advanced to hone their skills in a safe environment. Ski Montcalm even created a ski and snowboard freestyle club for those who enjoy the sport and want some friendly competition. The mountain also boasts five glades to work on your tree skiing and have a blast after big storms!
Over the past few years, Ski Montcalm has heavily invested in snowmaking equipment to provide the best possible conditions in increasingly challenging weather. That said, the mountain’s geographical location benefits from a favourable microclimate, which ensures significant yearly precipitation levels and high-quality natural snow. With its four mountain areas and the maintenance team’s commitment to the trails’ quality, the conditions are always on point.
The New Natura Alpine Touring Sector
Starting in January 2025, the brand-new backcountry area will undoubtedly win over ski touring enthusiasts. The Natura sector was developed on a peak near the mountain to offer a natural experience slightly set back from the resort. After just a bit more than a kilometre of climbing, ski tourers will find themselves at the top of this new area. What awaits them? Three partially wooded runs. Once at the base of the descents, it’s easy to head back up for another lap. What makes the place even more special is the prevailing tranquility and nature’s soothing silence. Access to the alpine touring area costs $20 for the day.
Après-Ski and Nighttime Events
Ski Montcalm has cooked up a joyful program of winter events to spice up its calendar. Three main events are on the menu to appeal to everyone’s tastes. First, a group night alpine touring outing with headlamps will provide a safe, enjoyable backcountry experience at night. Next, the ski patrol’s classic night run is back this year to raise funds for the resort’s patrol with a benefit dinner and group descent. Finally, a very special non-traditional night skiing project is in development at Ski Montcalm. Stay tuned to be in the know about the mountain’s events for the 2025 season. In addition, après-ski is always a great chance to enjoy the menu of comfort foods at Bistro La Clusaz after a wonderful day spent on the slopes.
Ski Montcalm is well worth a trip. The quality of the ski area’s conditions and new features—including the Natura sector and reloadable lift passes for more convenient slope access—are just a few of the reasons why we always fall for this family resort. See you on the slopes! Here’s to a fantastic ski season!
