VanLife MTL: 4 tips for a successful family ski-in ski-out trip

The ski season has started in many regions of Quebec, and it's time to discover them with your family. A VanLife MTL rental is ideal for travelling the province in complete autonomy. Chef and outdoor enthusiast Louis-François Marcotte tried it for you. Here are 4 tips for experiencing ski in ski out with your family.

1. Planning the Ski Trip

Winter camping with two kids is the ultimate adventure. Therefore, planning is key to being successfully autonomous at the ski resort. Louis-François and his family chose Mont Grand-Fonds in the Charlevoix region for their weeklong winter vacation. Planning is about the location and the duration of the trip, and all the other aspects that will make the stay easy and enjoyable for the whole family. Louis-François says that you have to plan the same way as camping in a tent in summer.

Managing equipment according to the space is one of the most important things to consider. Louis-François dedicated the front cabin to drying clothes thanks to the van’s ultra-efficient heating system; you might also want to bring a boot drier and some hangers to organize the drying station. Since some vehicles are equipped with an outdoor shower, don't forget to bring some washcloths, towels and think of a way to wash the VanLife way.

2. Make Yourself at Home in a VanLife

The VanLife MTL vehicles are thought out to be comfortable and efficient. The cabin is designed to save space and for travellers to feel right at home. Every VanLife comes entirely equipped with: a full kitchen, electricity, water, cartridge toilet, all you need to cook and clean and, of course, beds, one or two depending on the model.

All vans are equipped with basic bedding such as sheets and pillows. If you're the cozy type, le Chef recommends that you bring your pillows and blankets. You'll never have slept so well; it's so important after a day of skiing! It is even possible to request additional warm bedding for optimal comfort.

3. Prepare Meals in Advance (his favourite advice!)

It’s Louis-François’ favourite for sure! Preparing meals and snacks in advance makes things so much easier. Since the VanLife vehicles come equipped with 12V refrigerators and small freezers, it’s easy to bring and keep food cold.

Prepare meals that you will freeze, sous-vide, to optimize space: chili, beef bourguignon, sausages for gourmet hot dogs, all you like to eat at home. Nothing is better than a warm, comforting meal at lunchtime to give the kids some energy to do a couple more runs! All you'll need to do is reheat it.

4. Live in the Moment

Going on an adventure with VanLife MTL is a memorable experience. Playing outside, skiing together and enjoying evenings after a day spent outdoors are precious moments. Since space is limited compared to home, proximity can be a challenge and a privilege.

If you love adventure, the outdoors, rosy cheeks after a good day of skiing and warm evenings with your family, a VanLife MTL ski vacation is for you. So, what’s your destination?
