Where to ski in Chaudière-Appalaches?

1. Massif du Sud

A Western mountain in the East. The Massif du Sud’s slogan gives you the gist: the mountain is a true paradise! With abundant natural snow, it has 35 runs and 18 glades of all levels, including an extreme area for the most seasoned skiers.

The mountain features two ski lifts. One takes you to the summit, which is 915 metres above sea level. In addition, the Massif du Sud ski resort has an uphill skin track for touring enthusiasts. When is your next “sick day”?

2. Mont Orignal

Less than an hour from Quebec City in the municipality of Lac-Etchemin, Mont Orignal ski resort is a crown jewel of the Appalachians. The mountain is 620 metres above sea level and offers 25 runs of varying levels, including 11 that are open for night skiing.

This family-friendly mountain has superb skiing conditions. Plus, Mont Orignal has developed its offerings of outdoor activities, such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and alpine touring. Another big plus is that it’s a cooperative. It’s definitely worth checking out.

3. Mont Adstock

Located 10 minutes from Thetford Mines, the Mont Adstock ski resort is well worth a visit! The mountain features 29 trails, including five glades, two snow parks and a bunny hill. What sets it apart is its rather steep terrain that will charm the most experienced skiers. In fact, most of the runs are categorized as difficult. But don’t be afraid of Mount Adstock. It offers good snow quality and maintenance, as well as beginner and intermediate runs.  

In addition, the mountain has developed a backcountry zone with four developed glades. Seasoned skiers will love navigating this terrain! Those getting started in ski touring can take a skin track from the base to the mountaintop and then ski back down on one of the resort’s runs. It’s a place that’s definitely worth exploring.

4. Le Valinouët

A stunning landscape and 100% natural snow! Le Valinouët ski resort has nothing left to prove. The ski resort, located in the heart of the Monts-Valin, features 33 runs of all levels spread over two mountainsides. Le Valinouët also has glades and an uphill trail for alpine touring.

5. Mont Édouard

Deep in Anse-Saint-Jean’s mountains lies a magnificent ski area: Mont Édouard. Much less crowded than many other resorts, the mountain always leaves you with indelible memories. With 43 runs and a 200-acre, patrolled backcountry area, there really is something for everyone.

Mont Édouard ski resort has the fifth largest vertical drop in Quebec. The snow quality, the terrain and the Anse-Saint-Jean community’s hospitality are among the reasons why the resort is a favourite.

6. Mont Garceau

Less than 90 minutes from Montreal in the friendly municipality of St-Donat, Mont Garceau ski resort is an outstanding destination for skiing as a family. The 103-acre ski area offers 33 runs for all levels, 50% of which are easy and intermediate. Its southwest orientation will allow you to enjoy rays of sunshine when the sky is clear.

Mont Garceau is one of the best ski areas for beginners. It provides a conducive learning environment for newbies to have an enjoyable, positive experience. 7. Val Saint-Côme

The perfect place for a family getaway! The Val Saint-Côme ski resort offers 37 runs, including 10 that are lit at night so you can enjoy them longer. The mountain offers a 300-metre vertical drop with a steep slope angle. It’s renowned for its well-maintained runs and nine glades.  

Thanks to a south-facing aspect, you’ll be able to soak in some sunshine while cruising down the slopes. The impressive snow park will appeal to freestyle enthusiasts, and the diversity of runs will win over all-mountain skiers.

8. Mont Avalanche

Mont Avalance rises above the heart of the charming municipality of Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard. Fun and accessible, Mount Avalanche features 13 runs and glades that are perfect for introducing children and adults to the sport. What makes it a favourite? The landscape’s beauty, accessible runs and an enjoyable, family-friendly atmosphere.

Mount Avalanche also offers two skin tracks that lead through a magnificent snowy forest to the summit. Don’t forget to stop by the restaurant and pub la Chèvre for après-ski!

9. Les Sommets

Les Sommets has nothing left to prove in the Laurentians! With six different ski resorts, including one in the Outaouais, Les Sommets has something for all tastes and skill levels. With five mountains in the Laurentians, the region is the perfect place to spend your vacation during the holiday season.  

Often overlooked, Sommets Olympia, Morin Heights and Gabriel are stellar resorts for skiing as a family. A bit less crowded than Saint-Sauveur and Versant Avila, these ski areas offer a wide variety of runs and are open for night skiing and on weekends. In addition, Sommet Olympia and Morin Heights have developed some uphill alpine touring trails so you can get started in touring or just pursue your favourite sport.

10. Mont Miller

You’ll find Mont Miller in the former mining village of Murdochville. In the heart of the Gaspé Peninsula, the ski area receives copious snowfalls and is an ideal place to improve your powder skiing. It’s closed on weekdays and operates its one and only T-bar on weekends—or when a snowstorm has graced the municipality. Mont Miller rises 858 metres above sea level and offers 32 runs and glades.

In addition, Mont Miller offers cat- and heli-skiing thanks to the Chic-Chac, which acquired the ski area in 2016.

Where to ski in Estrie?

11. Bromont Mountain of experiences

Bromont is the largest lit ski area in North America. With seven mountainsides, the Estrie ski resort has 143 runs, including 104 for night skiing. It rises 550 metres above sea level and stretches over 1.82 kilometres of skiable terrain. The runs are appropriate for all skill levels, whether you’re a beginner or expert.

The mountain offers a snow park and uphill skin tracks that get your heart rate going.

Where to ski in Mauricie?

12. Vallée du Parc

It’s Shawinigan’s local mountain. Vallée du Parc has evolved since its beginnings in 1972. The ski area now has 33 runs and glades, including two family-friendly trails that make it an outstanding mountain for beginners. Vallée du Parc offers night skiing and two snow parks. In addition, an uphill skin trail has been cleared to round out the offerings.

Where to ski in the Eastern Townships?

13. Owl’s Head

Owl’s Head ski resort offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views in the province. Overlooking Lake Memphremagog, this ski area with a 540-metre vertical drop has something for all skier levels. Owl’s Head offers 50 trails served by five chairlifts. The resort’s ten maintained glades are sure to appeal to the most experienced skiers while beginners will enjoy the mid-mountain’s green trails. Notably, the Ponsoon glade is the largest in the Eastern Townships!  

The new owners, in place since 2018, have invested in renovating the chalet, which now houses a cafeteria, a bar, a shop and a rental service. Plus, a new snow park was also created for the 2023–2024 ski season. For alpine touring enthusiasts, the mountain offers two uphill skin tracks to the top. It’s a must-visit!
