Length
Although most riders want a board that hits between the chin and nose, three important points are to be considered.
First of all, the weight of the rider has a big influence on the length of the board. It’s actually more important than their height. Most of the manufacturers offer a weight chart for their products. Since not all the boards are created equal – type of wood, reinforcement – it varies from one product to the other.
Rider ability also plays an important role. For example, a beginner should choose a shorter board which offers optimal handling.
Style – freestyle, freeride, backcountry, etc. – of the rider must be considered. If you spend most of your season in the snow park, a shorter board is right for you. However, if you are a pro carver and a powerful on-hill rider, you should choose a longer board. A short board is easier to handle and a long board offers more stability at high speeds.
Width
Another important feature is the board’s width which is determined by the size of your feet. Therefore, it’s important to bring your boots when you purchase a snowboard. A board that is the right width will make all the difference in the performance of your equipment.
Unfortunately, wider women’s boards do not exist. For women who wear size 11 US and more, we suggest that they choose a men’s board.
In short, even though the choice is yours, a board that caters to your needs will enable you to get the most out of your season. You’ll elevate your experience and thoroughly enjoy your days spent at the hill.
